It has always been a tradition at my house to dye our eggs before Easter. This year we tried something new! Instead of using the classic kits and dipping our eggs into the food coloring, we used Cool Whip.
This was so much fun!!! We had a great time and ended up with the most beautiful Easter eggs!
What You’ll Need
- 1 dozen large white hard boiled eggs
- 1 large container Cool Whip
- Distilled white vinegar
- Food coloring
Once your eggs have been hard boiled and cooled, submerge them in a bowl of vinegar for 2 minutes.
Remove the eggs from the vinegar and gently dry off and set to the side.
Take a large baking sheet and line with parchment paper or wax paper.
Spread your container of Cool Whip onto the baking sheet in a thin layer (approximately 1/4 inch).
Add a few drops of food coloring into the cool whip. Keep each color in a different section. Using a fork, rake through the food coloring, spreading it across the Cool Whip. Keep in mind the food coloring should be streaked across, not spread evenly.
Take an egg and roll it gently across the Cool Whip/food coloring one full time, making sure you have plenty of color on your egg.
Place the egg (with Cool Whip still on it) onto a wire rack. Repeat these steps until you’ve used all of your eggs.
Let the eggs sit for 30 minutes to let the dye soak in. Then using a paper towel, gently wipe off the Cool Whip and then run the egg under cold water to remove any remaining Cool Whip. Resist from rubbing the eggs while running them under water, as this may remove the coloring.
